Safety everywhere

When traveling as a family, safety is paramount. Safety on the road includes a reliable vehicle, redundant brake systems, great forward visibility, easy field repairs and a good stock of spare parts (including replacement tires). Safety also means avoiding intrusions with a high living cell, windows that are 8ft above ground (no peeking from passer-bys) and heavy duty anti-theft doors and double-glazed windows.

Off-road, safety means a highly versatile vehicle, with strong all terrain tires, lockable differentials (front and rear) and wheels (left and right), high torque and automatic crawling gears. Go slow, and you can go anywhere. Add a high clearance to ford local rivers without bridges (so fun), and keep the ride smooth after hours on a washing board trail thanks to the MAN KAT suspension.

Just watch those bridges if you drive under them (this is a high truck at 3.8m), or the weight rating if you drive on them (14T permissible weight). Or better still, just drive to places where bridges don't  yet exist.

All travelers know that no matter how well prepared you are, sometimes things will break, usually at the worse possible time. The question is what to do then, and SloMo was designed with redundancy in mind. It has two fuel tanks, two battery banks, multiple charging methods (alternator, solar array, genset, shore power). It also comes with a full field tool kit, so that you can fix anything anywhere (or just tinker to your heart's content). Hydraulic jacks, metric wrenches, electrical and plumbing kits. And when all else fails: 2 tow hitches to get you out of trouble. (back and front).
